The United Way of Monroe/Lenawee Counties and ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital, along with three major partners, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, Family Medical Center, and the Monroe County Health Department annually provide opportunities for low-cost health testing and health information in the spring and fall. The costs for this project are held to a minimum due to partnership collaborations. The cost of the 22-blood panel is only $20.00.
A variety of vaccines will be offered at all Health Check events. Initial funding for the project comes from ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital and The United Way of Monroe/Lenawee Counties, while the partners conduct all the testing, lab work, and supply staffing and volunteers.
All sites are open from 8AM to 12PM and a 12-hour fast is recommended before blood tests. The main test offered is a blood panel comprised of 22 tests to include a blood count, glucose, kidney function, sodium, potassium, chloride, carbon dioxide, thyroid function, and total cholesterol check. Additional Vitamin D and HA1C test are available. Vitamin D test measure how much vitamin D in in your body. Vitamin D is essential for healthy bones, a lack of it can lead to health problems, including cardiovascular disease. AHA1C (also called Glycohemoglobin) a blood test that is an aid in diagnosing and monitoring diabetes. It is an index of the person's blood sugar from the previous few months. All tests range in price from $5.00 to $20.00. Blood test results are mailed to the individuals home address, and it is their responsibility to take the results to their medical professional.
Blood pressures, performed by Family Medical Center staff, are always taken before blood is draws can be made. Health Check usually offers a memory test, legal information from Monroe Senior Legal Services, ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital sends staff from their many departments: Nutrition Counseling, Pharmacy, Pulmonary Functions, Pulmonary Rehab, Cardiac Rehab, Women's Center Health, Family Medical Center. Other Community partners include the Monroe County Library System, and Monroe Cancer Connection.
FREE MEDICATION DISPOSAL will be offered at each site. No syringes, liquids or creams are accepted. This is a safe way for you to dispose of any expired or unused prescription or over-the-counter medication. Drop off is anonymous, and any patient identifying information will be destroyed.
